Pupils pass Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award
21 July 2017
Eight pupils from Norham High School completed their Bronze Duke of Edinburgh Qualifying Expedition. Traveling by foot, over some navigationally challenging terrain the pupils successfully navigated the route, starting from North West of Wark in Northumberland travelling due south finishing just north of Hayden Bridge camping overnight at Green Carts Campsite, B&B and Bunkhouse.
Accompanying the group were two additional Norham High School pupils and one student from Churchill Community College on Bronze and Silver Training expeditions. Pupils benefit greatly from the Duke of Edinburgh’s Award gaining skills that take pupils out of there comfort zones to build self-confidence, resilience, develop key skills for work such as communication skills and team working skills.
Pupils gained new experiences and developed independence doing something that they have little or no experience at doing things such as camp craft, emergency first aid and developing navigational skills. Not only do pupils develop these skills for expedition they have also undertaken three other areas to achieve the award developing new skills, taking part in physical activity and volunteering.
A massive well done to everyone who took part.
