Christmas arrives early for the Young at Heart

We've been marking the first anniversary of our special 'Young at Heart' friendship group, this week - with some early Christmas celebrations!  The ‘Young at Heart’ club sees older people from the local community visit us each month to spend quality time our pupils, including the School Council.

The club was kick-started last Christmas when the group all met for the first time at St Peter’s Church in North Shields. Relationships have blossomed over the last year, and we wanted to celebrate our first anniversary in a truly traditional style. The pupils and their older friends enjoyed a fabulous festive lunch of turkey and all the trimmings, followed by Christmas carols and gift-giving.

As well as being a social event, the Young at Heart club helps to bridge the generational gap between the pupils and members of the community, as they meet to share stories and skills and take part in fun activities including bingo, knitting and IT sessions.
