Subject overview
Our vision is to develop scientific curiosity and the key scientific skills and knowledge needed to succeed at Norham and beyond. To enable this, pupils will get opportunities and support to develop key scientific skills e.g. data interpretation and investigation skills.
Homework will be given once a week and can be accessed through ‘ClassCharts’.

Key Stage 3
4 lessons per week with one teacher.  Each topic is assessed by an open task in which the pupil is given specific feedback on how to improve before completing a test at the end of the topic.  The pupils are given regular personalised feedback on how to progress in science to support them to achieve their target.

Year 9 – 5 lessons per week with one teacher.

Key Stage 4
Exam board – Edexcel
All pupils complete the Combined science course.  They will be assessed at the end of the course by 6 exams (2 biology, 2 chemistry and 2 physics).
Year 10 – 5 lessons per week with 1 teacher
Year 11 – 6 lessons per week with 1 teacher
Pupils are regularly assessed within lessons using a variety of methods and using end of topic tests.
Pupils are given regular feedback to support them to make progress in science

How can parents support their child’s progress in this subject?

All pupils have been provided with revision guides.  Pupils should be using these to complete homework assignments and revise.Use the links above to access revision materials.Ask the pupils to discuss the learning that has taken place that week in science and ask them to show you their homework.
