Six Year 9 pupils have recently undertaken a 13 week STEM Project in which they had to design an Eco Hotel.

The Go4SET scheme ran by the EDT (Engineering Development Trust) links students to an engineering company who then mentor the pupils to complete an ecological project.

The students had to produce a scientific report, build a model and the project finished with a Celebration and Assessment Day at Newcastle University. Here the pupils presented their project in front of a judge of panels and had to answer questions throughout the day at their stand where they showcased their work. Derek Mitchell from Capita Highways attended the school on a weekly basis to help them with the project and the pupils also had the opportunity to visit Derek at work at a Capita building site and were able to learn lots about all the different careers involved in Civil Engineering. During the project the pupils were also able to get an insight into project management and they had a chance to understand STEM application in a real life setting.

Due to their efforts the pupils have earned the Industrial Cadets Bronze Award and a CREST Science award.
