Norham pupils have had the privilege of meeting Matt Dickinson, author and serial adventurer thanks to North Tyneside Schools Library Service.

Matt has an exciting action-packed career as an award-winning Director and Cameraman forNational Geographic TV and the Discovery Channel, which saw him film on Everest’s summit (the first British filmmaker to do so and come back alive),in Antarctica, Greenland, Alaska and on top of the highest live volcano in the world. Along the way, Matt has worked with some of the great characters from the world of adventure, including Bear Grylls, Judy Leden and Brian Blessed, with whom he climbed Everest in 1996, surviving an avalanche and a killer storm in the death zone.

Matt discussed his fascination with endurance and the lengths people go to in the name of exploration. He discussed his inspiration for his Carnegie Medal nominated trilogy, The Everest Files.  These books tell the fictional story of an eighteen-year-old adventurer who embarks upon a deadly mission to find the truth about a stricken climber lost on Everest’s treacherous slopes. His constant references to his adventures helped our young people totally get a feel of what it would be like to be an adventurer or character in his books.

Matt shared many a fascinating story and adventure with Norham pupils and we hope we can work with him in the future during our transition fortnight.
