Skills for Industry is a DATA (Design and Technology Association) programme run in association with North Tyneside Learning Trust where 5 North Tyneside Schools (Norham, Churchill, Burnside, Marden and John Spence) are linked with a local industry partner in order to help Design and Technology teachers to develop the industry-relevant knowledge and skills needed, which they can pass onto their students during and beyond the project.

The flexible programme provides a structured itinerary of training and coaching relevant to the curriculum, to enhance technical and employability skills; encourage creativity and innovation; provide insights into education and career pathways including apprenticeships; and develop comprehensive, business-linked teaching resources, which would be available for any school to download after the project. Please see the attached flow chart which outlines the different key points during our programme.

The programme also aims to address the current skills gap that the industry partner experiences when recruiting new employees. This is achieved through the design

of a project and supporting teaching resources to up skill the teachers and students in those relevant skills.

The schools were extremely lucky to be linked up with Nissan who will provide support in technology lessons and students are also given the opportunity to visit the Nissan plant.
