Pupils experience Marine Engineering
7 December 2017
The Sea Cadets visited Norham this week to work with Year 7 and 8 pupils around a marine engineering workshop with a view to recruiting more pupils into the sea cadets and STEM careers.
Pupils were tasked with a buoancy practical task to explain the principles of seafaring vessels first before becoming marine engineers by designing and building their own boats using just silver foil, some wire and a few pieces of card.
The pupils then constructed an array of different designs which was really interesting to see. The pupils were then asked to bring their boat to the tank at the front of the lab to see which one could be loaded with the most marbles before sinking. The pupils had a few hours and were fully onboard with this learning experience.
